THE NATIONAL ACADEMY FOR GIFTED AND TALENTED YOUTH : EVALUATION OF THE SUMMER SCHOOL PROGRAMME 2005-2008

Directors: Geoff Lindsay, Mairi-Ann Cullen and Dimitra Hartas

With: Stephen Cullen

This study was designed to build upon the evaluations of the first two NAGTY summer schools. Whereas the first was at the University of Warwick only, the 2004 summer school took place in seven different universities. The evaluations to date had indicated these summer schools had been viewed very positively by the participants and their parents. The present project continued with established focus and methodology but, in addition, explored the nature of particularly effective teaching and learning.

Unfortunately, the University of Warwick decided not to bid for the new contract to host NAGTY when this became due. As a result, this evaluation was curtailed. By the end of our work it was clear that the Summer School had been viewed highly positively by participants and that there was evidence of innovative and effective teaching involving staff from higher education and schools collaborating.
