RAISING THE QUALITY OF CREATIVE PROCESS AND PRODUCT IN YOUTH THEATRE

Ruth Hewston, Jonothan Neelands and Juliet Raynsford

This project for The National Association of Youth Theatres concerned ways to improve artistic quality and methods of assessment in youth theatre. Core components of the project were the development of indicators and criteria currently used to identify artistic and creative standards in youth theatre; the identification of language and criteria used to describe and assess work; and the exploration of the ways in which youth theatre monitor, assess and develop quality work. The over-aching intention of the project was to devise a quality framework to continue to improve quality standards, encourage ongoing self-assessment and influence the development of the sector as a whole.

Ruth was the Principal Investigator coordinating a team including Prof Jonothan Neelands (Warwick Institute of Education) and Juliet Raynsford (Birmingham Repertory Theatre).
