The First Steps project focused on supporting staff in English Sure Start Children's Centres to be better able to identify and support families affected by substance misuse. Skills 4 Change focused on supporting staff in English secondary schools (initially in ten areas) to identify young people affected by parental substance misuse and on training selected staff to deliver the Skills 4 Change intervention to students affected by family substance misuse. In both evaluations, combined qualitative and quantitative methods were used; a Social Return on Investment (SROI) approach was also used for the Skills 4 Change evaluation.
