Beyond Words, a community interest company publishing books without words for adults with learning disabilities, funded a research and evaluation project to investigate how the Beyond Words books achieve their aims, with whom and why, with a particular focus on books designed to help adults with learning disabilities build positive relationships. The work was led from the University of Warwick and conducted in partnership with Beyond Words, where the researcher, Shahan Begum, is based. The collaborative work aimed to meet the needs of Beyond Words in terms of evidencing the impact of its books, and provided a research and publication opportunity for the University which will benefit the wider public by enhancing understanding of picture-based information/education for people with learning disabilities.
