RESEARCH PROJECT ON THE EFFICACY OF INTENSIVE BEHAVIOURAL INTERVENTION ON CHILDREN WITH AUTISM (3-5 YEARS) BASED IN SWITZERLAND
Funded by AOVA
Professor Richard Hastings
Comprehensive behavioural early intervention educational interventions for children with autism are well-established in the USA, Canada, and to certain extent in the UK. There have also been a number of recent systematic and meta-analytic reviews reporting positive findings. However, in Switzerland access to any evidence-based early intervention models for children with autism is rare. This project in partnership with the Association Objectif Vaincre L’autisme (AOVA) is an evaluation of outcomes from several comprehensive and intensive early intervention programmes in Switzerland. Children following a behavioural intervention model will be compared with children receiving other similar intensity early intervention models and with an education as usual control group. The design focuses on evaluation of existing practice rather than a research (e.g., random) allocation. We will assess child and family outcomes over at least 12 months of intervention.
