I am a Principal Research Fellow in CEDAR, having conducted research and evaluation on continuing professional development for a range of sponsors and on supply teaching for The Leverhulme Trust. Originally a teacher of English and Drama, I later researched sociological aspects of vocational education in England and France.
My work then focused on continuing vocational education and professional development in the law, engineering, arts administration, nursing and in the creative industries. In recent years research on the cultural sector has predominated, in two broad areas: first in artists' employment, careers and working lives, especially in the performing arts and visual arts. Secondly I have researched learning and professional development associated with museums and galleries and in other creative/cultural contexts. See projects list for details of research on the learning provided through sculpture trails, artists in hospices, young people and ballet, professional development by the Royal Shakespeare Company and other projects.
