PGCE Early Years

Your Degree

On application you must have graduated, or be about to graduate, from a UK Higher Educational Institute or equivalent, with a 2:2 or above honours degree. Preference is given to candidates with a 2:1 or above honours degree in a relevant subject. Do not let this discourage you from applying, particularly if you have a lot of valuable experience.

GCSEs

On application you must hold at least Grade C in GCSE English Language, Mathematics and Science. Equivalent qualifications may be considered.

The new grading system for those receiving their results for GCSE Maths and English will be adopted in Summer 2017. The grading system will be 9-1, with Grade 9 awarded to those students in the very top tier. The New Grade 4 is considered equivalent to the Old Grade C within the new grading system.

You must have the Original Certificate or a Certified Statement of Results when providing proof of your GCSE results. If you do not have your results ordering them can take up to 28 days so the sooner you can apply for your GCSE Certified Statements the better.

School Experience

It is recommended you gain as much School Experience in mainstream Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 as possible.

Skills Test

As part of your application you must pass the Professional Skills Tests in numeracy and literacy. We suggest you register for the Skills Tests as soon as possible to ensure you complete it in good time. NB. Skills tests are only valid for 3 years, please ensure your skills test will be valid on the course start date.
