Economics PhD student awarded the EEA Young Economist Award

Matteo Gamalerio from the Department of Economics has been awarded the 2017 EEA Young Economist Award.

The Award being supported by Unicredit & Universities is given to three best papers presented by young economists, with Matteo's paper on Fiscal Rules and the Selection of Politicians: Evidence from Italian Municipalities being awarded at this year's event.

I am also thankful for the help and feedback received from Warwick faculty members and PhD colleagues. Without them it would have not been possible to achieve this result.

The Award was previously known as the FEEM Award from 2009 to 2015 and sponsored by the Fondazione Eni Enrico Mattei. In 2016 and 2017, UniCredit & Universities Foundation supported the Award and the three successful Award winners receive a financial award for their outstanding contribution.

On winning the award, Matteo said:

I am delighted on winning the EEA Young Economist Award. This is a prestigious award conferred by the European Economic Association and funded by Unicredit & Universities, which in recent years has done an important job in supporting research in economics at high quality academic institutions. I take this award as a recognition of the hard work done at Warwick during the PhD. I am also thankful for the help and feedback received from Warwick faculty members and PhD colleagues. Without them it would have not been possible to achieve this result.
