Sascha Becker awarded title of "Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Professor"
Wednesday 3 Jun 2026Professor Sascha Becker is one of 42 recipients of a new award recognising international academic excellence. He is among the inaugural cohort of “Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Professors” at Monash University, Melbourne, Australia, where he holds the Xiaokai Yang Chair of Business and Economics.
The title is awarded to senior Monash University academics who are recognised to be of sustained international pre-eminence in research or education within their discipline.
The inaugural cohort was announced on 1 June by Professor Sharon Pickering
Vice-Chancellor and President of Monash University, and Professor Tim Dunne,
Provost and Senior Vice-President.
They said: “We extend our warmest congratulations to the first cohort of Monash University professors to be conferred the title of Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Professor. These recipients embody the excellence that Monash University has come to be recognised for nationally and globally over the years.”
Commenting on the award, Sascha said: “I am delighted and humbled to be part of the inaugural cohort of Vice-Chancellor’s Distinguished Professors.”
Head of Department Professor Jeremy Smith added: “On behalf of the department, I offer my sincere congratulations to Sascha on this outstanding achievement. This honour is a testament to his exceptional scholarly contributions, international standing, and the impact of his work across the discipline."
