The West Midlands is one of the most important regions for fashion and textiles, with more than 6,000 located businesses in the region, employing 24,000 people.
A third of total employment in the sector is in the West Midlands’ textile manufacture, including the manufacture of textile items (bedding, curtains, etc.), carpet manufacture and labels and trimmings. Most fashion and textiles business activities are represented to some extent, but the region is particularly strong in the following:
- The washing and dry-cleaning of textile and fur products
- The manufacture of made-up textile articles and apparel
- The wholesale of clothing and footwear
Whilst businesses are spread across the region, the main concentrations are in Birmingham, Coventry, Walsall, Sandwell, Wolverhampton, Telford & Wrekin and Wyre Forest.
