East Midlands

There are 44,380 people in the sector workforce in the region, representing 7% of the UK sector workforce. 35% of the workforce is self-employed. 63% of the workforce is male. 93% of the sector workforce is white and 54% are under 40 years.

Sector employment in the East Midlands has grown by 26% since 2006, compared with 9% across the UK sector.

There are 3,950 creative businesses in the region, of which 92% employ less than 50 people. 49% of businesses have a turnover of less than £100,000. 10% of businesses experienced difficulty recruiting (compared with 12% across the UK average), 38% said that applicants lacked skills, 32% had been few or no applicants and 27% had skills gaps.
