There are 164,690 people in the sector workforce in London, representing 24% of the UK sector workforce. 51% of the workforce is self-employed. 58% of the workforce is male. 84% of the sector workforce is white and 56% are under 40 years.
Before the recession, sector employment in London had declined by 11% since 2006, compared with 9% growth across the UK sector.
There are 21,600 creative businesses, of which 93% employ less than 50 people. 7% of businesses have a turnover of over £1million. 12% of employers reported recruitment difficulties (compared with 12% across the UK average) and 64% report lack of skills and experience.
