There are 98,170 people in the sector workforce in the region, representing 14% of the UK sector workforce. 43% of the workforce is self-employed. 59% of the workforce is male. 97% of the sector workforce is white and 47% are under 40 years.
Before the recession, sector employment in the South East had grown by 22% since 2006, compared with 9% across the UK sector.
There are 12,300 creative businesses in the region, of which 93% employ less than 50 people. 6% of businesses have a turnover of over £1million. 8% of businesses have experienced difficulty recruiting (compared with 12% across the UK average), 50% reported that applicants lacked skills and experience. 17% reported gaps (compared with 56% across the UK average.
