There are 45,900 people in the sector workforce in the region, representing 7% of the UK sector workforce. 40% of the workforce is self-employed. 60% of the workforce is male. 97% of the sector workforce is white and 53% are under 40 years.
Sector employment in Yorkshire and the Humber has grown by 22% since 2006, compared with 9% across the UK sector.
There are just under 4,000 creative businesses in the region, of which 90% employ less than 50 people. 8% of businesses have a turnover of over £1million. 8% of businesses report difficulty recruiting (compared with 12% across the UK average), 77% report applicants lacked skills and experience, 13% said applicants lacked qualifications and 25% report skills gaps.
