The Professional Nurse Advocate (PNA) programme is a clinical and professional leadership programme which equips registered nurses with the skills to deliver restorative clinical supervision to colleagues in England. Launched in March 2021, towards the end of the third wave of COVID-19, the programme has been gradually rolled out across England during 2021/22.
The aim of this literature review is to identify research reporting on Professional Nurse Advocates, associated research on Professional Midwifery Advocates and any studies on the key aspects of the A-Equip model such as restorative clinical supervision, and provide a synthesis of key findings and potential recommendations.
The project is being undertaken in collaboration with Dr Chanel Watson, Dr Pinar Avsar, Louise Watson and Professor Jan Illing at the University of Medicine and Health Sciences in Ireland (RCSI).
