Midlands Graduate School DTP ESRC-Funded Studentships

Outstanding Home/EU applicants to the IER MPhil/PhD in Employment Research are invited to apply for ESRC-funded studentships offered through the Midlands Graduate School DTP Business and Management Pathway.

Background

The Midlands Graduate School, led by the University of Warwick, is an accredited Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) Doctoral Training Partnership and forms part of the ESRC’s Doctoral Training Network which significantly widens access for postgraduates to ESRC funding across the UK.The new Network consists of 14 Doctoral Training Partnerships (DTPs) and two Centres for Doctoral Training (CDTs), supporting over 500 research students annually across the UK. Established in 2016, with first the intake of students starting in October 2017, the Midlands Graduate School is a consortium led by the University of Warwick in conjunction with the University of Nottingham, University of Birmingham, Loughborough University, Aston University and University of Leicester.

Midlands Graduate School ESRC Doctoral Studentships

The Midlands Graduate School DTP makes an annual award of a large number of studentships to outstanding applicants across the Social Sciences. The studentships are linked to disciplinary and inter-disciplinary training pathways. The Institute for Employment Research encourages outstanding home/EU applicants for the IER MPhil/PhD in Employment Resarch to apply for an ESRC Studentship under the Management and Business Pathway. It is also possible to apply for a studentship under this pathway through another department of the Faculty, Warwick Business School. The Pathway Coordinator is Prof Giuliana Battisti in the Warwick Business School but if you are interested in applying for the IER MPhil/PhD in Employment Research we recommend that you contact the IER Director of Graduate Studies, Dr Clare Lyonette c dot lyonette at warwick dot ac dot uk in the first instance.

How to Apply

Once you have read the eligibility criteria and guidance notes for applying, please email a DRAFT of your completed ESRC studentship application form to the IER Director of Graduate Studies c dot lyonette at warwick dot ac dot uk copied to [email]ierphd@warwick.ac.uk[email] as soon as possible and ideally by early December in the year before you wish to start your doctoral pgrogramme. This will allow time for feedback on your proposal and preparation of your potential supervisor's supporting statement BEFORE submitting the online studentship application form. If we consider your application to have potential, we will encourage you to apply for a studentship following the process described on the DTP website. Please note that to formally apply you will need to submit two separate online forms - the University of Warwick application form for entry onto the IER MPhil/PhD in Employment Research AND the ESRC DTP studentship application form.
