Who is eligible to apply?

All Social Sciences research staff and doctoral (research) candidates are welcome to join as well as research staff from departments that fall within the ESRC discipline funding guidelines here. In addition, doctoral candidates from the Midlands Graduate School ESRC DTP from all partner institutions are also eligible to apply. The course has been developed for researchers in the early years of their career and is a foundational level course for collaborating with business.

When do I need to apply?

Applications will open by end Sept 2020, the deadline for application is 16th October 2020

What is expected of me?

There is no pre-work for the course, it is suitable for those who are either curious to find out more about business and social sciences or those with a specific idea/question in mind about how business can engage in their work. The course will be delivered online whilst retaining the interactive and immersive nature, so participants are requested to fully attend all sessions and engage with the facilitators and fellow participants.

Do I need any special equipment to take part?

The course will be delivered online using an online meeting platform enabled to allow participants to interact, therefore a good internet connection and a device (computer or tablet) that enables access to camera /microphone / speakers or a headset will be needed. Any other materials required will be sent via post ahead of time.

What is the market exploration?

Following the interactive training during the Autumn Term, you will have the opportunity to apply what you have learned by engaging with organisations relevant to your research with support via schedule surgery sessions and one-to-one mentoring.

What is the VIBE Learning Award?

At the end of the spring term, you can share your experience and learnings from the programme in a brief presentation to your fellow participants, members of the DTP and Social Sciences faculty. We hope to be able to run this event in person but the circumstances at the time will determine the format. One presenter will be awarded with a £500 individual award.
