Beyond Intermediation: A New (Fintech) Model for Securities Holding Infrastructures by Professor Charles W. Mooney, Jr

- Export as iCalendar
Location: Room OC1.03, Oculus Building

This is a joint research project with Professor Kumiko Koens (Yamagata University). It includes a critique of intermediated securities holding systems under domestic law and in the context of cross-border holding patterns. It argues that modern systems of information technology can play an important role in overcoming flaws, excessive risk, and inflexibility under current legal regimes and market structures. In particular it proposes a new platform for reducing risks in intermediated holding systems that would incorporate distributed ledger (i.e., blockchain) technology and connect all relevant stakeholders in one system at the end of each settlement cycle.

The event will be chaired by Professor Hugh Beale, and is part of the project 'The Regulatory Dimension of Secured Transactions Law Reforms' led by Dr Giuliano G. Castellano.

This event is funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) via the University of Warwick Impact Acceleration Account.
