We are looking for two individuals who would be available to do 5-6 hours paid work per week throughout the Autumn term for Lacuna Magazine (see www.lacuna.org.uk).
Lacuna is an online magazine, run by the Centre for Human Rights in Practice, that challenges indifference to suffering and promotes human rights. The two roles are described below and relate to (1) social media/publicity and (2) online content management. Both roles will be paid at standard research assistant rates (approx. £10 per hour).
If you would like to be considered, please send your 1-page CV and a (max) 150 word covering letter to Alice Panepinto (email@example.com) by Friday 16th October at 5pm at the latest. You are welcome to apply for both opportunities if you wish, in which case please make two different applications (you will only be chosen for one).
- Social media/publicity - The successful candidate will help to maintain and strengthen Lacuna’s social media profile (Facebook and Twitter). They will need to be able to post/tweet in relation to the magazine’s content on a daily basis, and interact with responses. They will also be asked to put together databases of email contacts to whom we can publicise particular editions of the magazine. The successful candidate should therefore have an excellent understanding of social media, and the media/magazine industry, and should have a passion for issues of human rights and injustice. He or she will also need to be able to work as part of a small team and communicate with them promptly and effectively.
- Online content management – The successful candidate will work with the Lacuna production team to upload magazine content onto the website. This will include text and pictures. The magazine operates in Wordpress, so knowledge of wordpress is vital. It would be desirable to have a broader background in online publishing, to have strong IT skills, and also strong design skills. A passion for human rights is also vital. He or she will also need to be able to work as part of a small team and communicate with them promptly and effectively.
The successful candidate for both posts will be given a full briefing and guidance before starting work. But this is all the information that you need at this stage to make an application.
