MA International Political Economy 2010
Directorate for Operations outside the EU on the FEMIP (Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Investment and Partnership) project at the European Investment Bank in the Policy and Trust Division
My MA in International Political Economy has equipped me with several instrumental skills: sharp analytical abilities, good interpersonal communication, research and editing/writing skills and the confidence to tackle the problems that I encounter and to comment on new cases with a different point of view. This experience has turned out to be the turning point of my career, as I have always wanted to contribute to human capital in developing countries, create cohesive societies and empower women.
Thanks to the course on Democratisation and Development, I acquired a greater interest in development issues; as a result, after graduating from Warwick, I was accepted onto the MA in Development Studies (with a specialization in Human and Social Development) at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies (IHEID) in Geneva with a full scholarship.
Currently, I am working at the European Investment Bank in the Policy and Trust Division as the Directorate for Operations outside the EU on the Facility for Euro-Mediterranean Investment and Partnership (FEMIP) project. This project has been active since 2002 in the Mediterranean partner countries (Algeria, Egypt, Gaza/West Bank, and Israel, among others). Since 2002, €13 billion has been invested through FEMIP into areas including small and medium enterprises (SMEs), industry and environment, and human capital/training. I applied for this position online; therefore, I advise current and prospective students to check the vacancies on the websites of international organizations regularly. My responsibilities at the EIB are to prepare and follow up on FEMIP conferences as well as draft policy notes, conduct background research on relevant policy areas, and edit the FEMIP annual report and country/sector brochures. I am also responsible for implementing technical assistance operations in the on-going projects on our policy areas jointly managed with other international financial institutions (including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Islamic Development Bank, Asian Development Bank, and the World Bank), think tanks, and other international organizations.
