In 1984, a major expansion to the NSA station at Menwith Hill called Project STEEPLEBUSH was completed. The main focus was an expansion of the Operations Building to accommodate a greater volume of product from new satellites. During the 1990s, the NSA station at Menwith Hill attracted increasing attention from peace campaigners because of its growing association with missile defence programmes.
