Fumihito Gotoh


Fumihito Gotoh is a doctoral researcher in the Department of Politics and International Studies at the University of Warwick, working under the co-supervision of Dr Timothy J. Sinclair and Professor Christopher W. Hughes. He obtained a BA in Economics from Keio University and an MSc in Politics of the World Economy from the London School of Economics and Political Science. Before starting his doctoral research, he conducted corporate credit research and formulated credit investment strategy at The Industrial Bank of Japan (IBJ), Merrill Lynch and UBS.


His doctoral research explores conflict between Japanese society’s anti-liberal, anti-free market norms and financial globalisation from a Neo-Gramscian perspective, and its working title is The Political Economy of the Japanese Credit Market: Social Norms versus Financial Globalisation. His MSc dissertation at LSE 'The Postwar Economic Development and International Relations of Taiwan' received Distinction. His research interests centre on international political economy, and particularly he is interested in politics of finance and money, comparative capitalisms and Japanese and Asian political economies.
