Double Degree with the University of Konstanz

Building on a strong history of Erasmus student exchange at undergraduate level, the University of Warwick and University of Konstanz have created a Double MA in Politics and Public Administration. This collaborative programme combines our theoretical-analytical approach with the analytical-practical approach characteristic of the Politics and Public Administration departmentat Konstanz.

Programme content

The Double Degree is based on the two year MA in Politics and Public Administration programme at Konstanz and any one of our taught MAs. The year spent with us replaces one year of study at Konstanz. All of the core and a wide range of optional courses at Konstanz will be taught in English, so while knowing German is desirable, it is not essential to undertaking this programme of study. During or after your studies in Konstanz, you will also have the opportunity to take advantage of the Konstanz Internship Database that has hundreds of opportunities both in Germany and further afield.

At the end of the degree, you will earn an 'MA in Politics and Public Administration: [your specialism title] (double degree with Universität Konstanz, Germany)' from Warwick as well as a corresponding Masters from Konstanz.

The student experience

I chose to do a Double MA because I felt that, especially in the area of International Relations, it is important to have lots of international experience.

What I enjoyed at Warwick was the personalised approach of the courses and the PAIS department. For example, there are lots of opportunities for personal guidance during the process of writing your papers. The small group seminar structure allows you to really get to know the other students in your seminars, which is great both academically and socially. After seminars end, we often found ourselves continuing the seminar discussions over a beer at the lovely Dirty Duck bar. The student body at Warwick is really diverse. I enjoyed learning about other perspectives and getting to know students from literally all over the world – I can surely say that this has helped me grow as a person.

Here at the University of Konstanz the student life is also great. Located near a beautiful city and surrounded by nature, I am often overlooking the biggest lake in Germany when having lunch at the university.
The focus of the course is more empirical and quantitative. The university offers helpful introduction courses and also a ‘recap course’ for students that wish to refresh their knowledge of statistics. The university organises a very useful introductory German language course prior to the start of the semester. I recommend taking part in this orientation course, as it allows you to learn German and get acquainted with other students.
