The effect of terrorism on public attitudes and individual well-being in Great Britain

Project overview

Although terrorism violence poses a small risk of victimization, it is a major source of public fear, and can have important consequences for democratic institutions and processes. The project will provide a systematic analysis of the consequences of terrorism for public attitudes towards key policy-relevant issues, including immigration and civil liberties, and for subjective well-being. With its long history of battling a variety of terrorist attacks within its borders, Great Britain provides a laboratory for understanding whether and how terrorism has shaped public sentiments over the last 30 years. The project will help devise effective strategies to minimize terrorism costs.
