Time: 12-2pm

Venue: R1.15 (Ramphal Building)

Summary: Since Doi Moi (Economic Innovation) in 1986, the state-firm relationship in Vietnam has gone through important changes, which have arguably resulted in a radically different political economy system. This presentation will trace these changes to show that the state-firm relationship in Vietnam has been transformed from the one of hierarchical nature to state capture. The presentation will then analyze political and economic ramifications of the changing state-firm relationship on Vietnam’s contemporary political and economic system.
