Mzukisi Qobo is a Mellon Post-doctoral Research Fellow in the Political Studies department, University of Stellenbosch, South Africa. He received his BA from the University of Cape Town, MA from the University of Stellenbosch, and a PhD from the University of Warwick. He has previously worked as an Assistant Director at the Department of Trade and Industry (South Africa) in the area of International Trade and Economic Development. His current research interests are broadly in the area of International Political Economy, focusing especially on the development dimension of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), Africa Group in the WTO, regional trade and security in Southern Africa, the relationship between regionalism and multilateralism. In South Africa he also has an interest in the relationship between the informal and the formal sectors of the economy, and the role of industrial policy in development.
