Robert Fine

Robert Fine is professor of sociology and currently chair of department. He also convenes the MA in Social and Political Thought. He is directing an ESRC-funded research project into cosmopolitanism and humanitarian military intervention with Dr William Smith as his Research Fellow. He is writing a monograph on the cosmopolitan paradigm in the social sciences and has written a number of journal articles on this topic, including one in the European Journal of Social Theory called 'Taking the “ism” out of cosmopolitanism'. His last monograph was a study of the political thought of Hegel, Marx and Hannah Arendt entitled Political Investigations: Hegel, Marx, Arendt (Routledge). His earlier study of Marx's critique of law has recently been republished with a new introduction as Democracy and the Rule of Law (Blackburn Press) and his book on Labour and Liberation in South Africa (Pluto) is out of print!
