Prior to doctoral studies, she worked as a Research Assistant in the Research Unit Africa of the SWP, and as a freelance Project Manager at the Munich based consultancy, Bureau for Institutional Reform and Democracy, BiRD. She has received her M.A. degree in Political Science from the University of Munich.
Dunja Speiser is visiting as a Marie Curie Fellow at the CSGR. She is a Ph.D. candidate and member of the Research Unit Middle East/Africa at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik, SWP/Institute for International and Security Affairs in Berlin. She is holder of an an Ebelin and Gerd Bucerius Fellowship of the ZEIT-foundation and supervised by professor Ulf Engel of the Institute for Afrikanistik at the University of Leipzig. Her thesis analysis the implications of external intervention on the disfunction of African states, where a special focus lies with the concept of state failure in two case studies, Burkina Faso
