Nicola Yeates has come to the CSGR as a Visiting Fellow from the School of Sociology and Social Policy, Queen's University Belfast. Nicola's research currently focuses on 'globalisation' as it relates to social policy at national and supranational levels (Globalisation and Social Policy, Sage, 2001; 'Social Policy and Politics in an Era of Globalisation', Social Policy and Administration, 33(4), 1999; ; 'Globalization and Social Policy: from global neoliberal hegemony to global political pluralism', Global Social Policy 2(1), 2002; “The 'anti-globalisation' movement and its implications for social policy”, Social Policy Review 14, eds R. Sykes et al, Policy Press/Social Policy Association, 2002; Globalisation and social policy in a development context: regional responses, UNRISD, 2004). While at the CSGR she is examining transnational markets in social welfare services and their governance. More specifically, she is focusing on (1) the implications of the WTO's General Agreement on Trade in Services for social protection, and (2) care labour migration as explored through the 'global care chain' concept.
