Research Fellow

Phillip Nelson is a Research Fellow at the University of Warwick. In 2015 he received a prestigious scholarship from the ESRC to undertake his PhD research at the University of Essex, from which he graduated in 2019. His thesis used advanced quantitative methods to examine why people fight in rebellion and how natural resources can be used by militias, not just rebel groups, to fund their operations. His previous research has been both cross-national and sub-national, with a focus on Colombia.
