BA Politics, International Studies and Quantitative Methods (2019)
The PAIS department will do more than give you a stimulating, exciting, and challenging experience in your studies. It will provide for you a sense of belonging, community and membership that you will not find in any other department! In PAIS we enjoy exclusive, weekly seminars and additional sessions whereby academics and thinkers from all over the globe will hold a special talk in the university. Another great thing concerning the department can be found through biannual film clubs. These showings are of great use as they will be related to your modules - for instance, the Purge was recently shown as was Lord of the Flies.
The department also boasts a superb society and, given the large size of our department, there is never a dull moment! The Politics Society will hold weekly events and we are not shy of welcoming students who may not study on a PAIS degree. For example, the Politics society was recently able to gain access to archives concerning the Russian Revolution and were able to display these historical pieces to all students, for free. There are also amazing nights-out, as well as regular debates and talks with the likes of the Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat and Green Party societies. Whatever suits your taste, the society can deliver!
Finally, the department will give to you plenty of opportunities to network and extend yourself beyond halls and the lecture hall. We all remember the struggles of moving into a strange place and so, each student is given a mentor (a fellow student in the above years) and a personal tutor who will help ease their transition into university. No matter how ‘silly’ or ‘trivial’ your query may be, we are here to help and make sure that you enjoy your experience in the PAIS department as much as we did, and thankfully still do.
