Politics and International Studies (PAIS) is one of the UK's leading politics departments. We were ranked 1st for research environment in the UK in the 2014 Research Excellence Framework and 1st for the student experience in the entire Russell Group of top UK departments. Globally, we rank 44th among all politics and international studies departments in the world, according to the QS World University Rankings 2017. Nationally, we are placed 3rd in the UK by the Times/ Sunday Times Good University Guide 2017 for the second year running, 3rd by The Guardian University Guide 2018, and 4th by The Complete University Guide 2018. Our department attracts top postgraduate students from around the world.
As a PAIS student, you will work with experts on a wide variety of topics within politics and international studies. Whether you stay within one of our four research clusters or go for a cross-cluster approach, you will have the freedom to cross 'traditional' subject lines in order to explore issues that matter to you.
