old MA PPE (Politics and Economics)
What caused the global financial crisis? What are the impacts of global capitalisms for societies and for human development? How do we measure economic growth and human development? How far are these suitable measurements in the contexts of environmental crisis, inequality and poverty? The study of PPE: Politics and Economics will give you the opportunity to explore these questions and many others through the principal theoretical currents, critical approaches and economics models. You will benefit from rigorous economics training and become equipped to engage with key theories, while also being able to focus on the practicalities of a chosen specialism like global political economy or international development, or a specific region like East Asia or Europe.

Should finance be regulated and, if so, how and by whom? What role do national interests play in free trade agreements? Is Trump an economic nationalist or does the media overstate his capacity to affect policy change? The module aims to provide robust and critical knowledge of key concepts and issues in International Political Economy, ranging from mainstream concerns like Trade and Finance, through to more critical issues like the Environment or Resistance. The module aims to develop an ability to analyse, compare and critically evaluate fundamental assumptions and arguments in IPE and IPE-related literature. |
