Excluding two secondments, Robin Cohen was Professor of Sociology at Warwick from 1979–2007. Since that time he has been Professor and Professor Emeritus of Development Studies at the University of Oxford, but remains close to colleagues at Warwick.
He has written mainly on the themes of migration, diaspora, identity, development and creolization. His two best known books are Global Diasporas: an Introduction (revised, 2008) and Global Sociology (co-authored, 2013).
