Deborah Lynn Steinberg PhD Supervision


Deborah has supervised 27 PhD students to date (most of whom have held ESRC and University scholarships) across a range of topics including: femininist media and cultural studies; public mourning; popular music cultures (fandom, subculture, the music press); war, violence and conflict; science fiction; sexual identities (the politics of ‘trans; online gender/sexuality movements, queer studies) feminist idiomatics and feminist theory; new media and on-line cultures (gamers; music subcultures – extreme metal, grime; fandom, celebrity, social media and social movements); popular press and advertising; magazines (men's magazines, the feminist Zine movement); embodiment and biopolitics (extreme tattooing; reproductive technologies/reproductive rights, gender and health, abortion politics); sexualities in education; Island identities and migration; and masculinities.
