Tacit knowledge is developed through years of experience in working situations. It is present in the human ability of making ‘correct judgements', managing operational variability, anticipating problems/accidents, and identifying opportunities. Tacit knowledge is the foundation for proper and speedy action and decision making, contributing for a higher productivity, cost reduction and improvement in quality and workplace safety. It cannot be written down in rules or operational procedures and cannot be simply ‘transferred’ from one person to another. It is embodied and intangible nature has then hampered the possibility of making a better use of this resource within organisations!

To solve this problem, methodologies for managing tacit knowledge in a systematic way were developed more recently, these methodologies were applied as the basis of the whole process of selection, hiring, team formation and pre-operational training of an industrial plant. Rodrigo will share his research and findings and challenge assumptions on how these processes work in practice.

After hearing from Rodrigo, we will hold a mini roundtable, where we will have the opportunity to discuss Member organisation activities in this area, so come along with your ideas and be prepared to share.

The Masterclass will be held at The shard, 32 London Bridge Street, London, SE1 9SG
