Northampton

Northampton

Northampton’s clever ancestors created a thriving shoemaking industry by taking the raw materials from the agricultural East Anglia then taking the finished shoes to trade in London to the South.

Northampton today is still home many independent shoemakers, alongside large manufacturers. The local government have honoured this heritage in the built landscape of the town and our research shows that this has resulted in a clearer sense of local identity.
