Stoke-on-Trent
Stoke-on-Trent
The city of six towns has long been associated with ceramics, with internationally renowned companies such as Wedgewood and Moorcroft setting up shop in the City. Today the relationship between city and craft is embedded further in the cultural consciousness as it is the setting of Channel 4’s The Great Pottery Throw Down.
Stoke-on-Trent is a great example of a specialist craft region, where the an area has attracted a cluster of expert craftspeople and organisations to settle there. Our research has shown that the local government’s work supporting craft through providing space to sell and showcase, has had a variety of benefits including encouraging other creative industries outside of ceramics to make this city its home.
