Performance Sport

Thank you for helping us support talented athletes at Warwick!

Last year, your donations helped to support performance sport at Warwick, training athletes and offering financial aid too.

The Team Warwick Performance Programme (TWP) is offered to teams who must show a desire to succeed.

We receive at least 20 applications every year from BUCS (British University College Sport) or ‘Olympic’ sport teams.

They receive training camps, priority booking for training facilities, coaching, fitness sessions and more.

In 2016-17, TWP teams included Archery, Badminton, Hockey, Men's Football, and Women's Volleyball.

Meanwhile, the Sports Scholarship Programme helps talented students who have perfomed at high levels in international and national leagues. We receive about 50 applications every year, and last year supported eleven athletes. They receive financial support (Gold £700, Silver £400, Bronze £200), training, advice, sports therapy, workshops, and free gym membership. Students say:

“Being part of the Warwick Sport Performance Team has been hugely beneficial for me as an athlete. The S&C sessions, access to the gym and the support from Warwick Sport have been essential, allowing me to maintain my current training schedule, whilst getting through my first year at Warwick."
Megan Surman (Sports Scholarship athlete for gymnastics and tumbling)

“The support enabled as a scholarship holder at Warwick University has enabled me to access vital training facilities needed for my sporting development. It has been a great boost mentally and physically to have received support from the performance team and University staff during the 1st year."
Troy Dixon (Sport Scholarship athlete for tennis)

The projects have helped us recruit a higher calibre of individual to the University and enhance the student experience once they are at the University. We've seen more professional behaviour from sports teams and competitors – there is zero toleration for anyone who is disrespectful or who may jeopardise the team’s position on the programme.

Most importantly, as anyone who has ever played as part of a team at university will tell you, it is very often the friends that you make as part of this club community that become your friends for life.

Thank you to everyone who donates to Warwick and makes student experiences like these possible!
