Warwick wins prestigious award for Careers and Skills support of Chinese students

award 3Warwick has been awarded the University Careers Services Best Practice Award by the Global University China Career Union (GUCCU) for the institution’s support of students who are seeking their first graduate role in China.

Last year a total of 670,000 Chinese students who studied or worked overseas returned to China for their career development. The GUCCU was established to help connect the career centres of leading global universities with Chinese employers, and to provide careers help to Chinese overseas students and alumni seeking opportunities in China.

Chris Hughes, University of Warwick Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education) said;

We are delighted to receive this award which is testament to the hard work of Warwick’s International Careers and Skills team. We recognise the challenges faced by our international students when they return home and we are committed to supporting them as they make the transition into the workplace.”

The GUCCU awarding body noted that;

Warwick’s career services team has a strong sense of mission to students' employment, and is actively engaged in employment training. The team cooperates extremely effectively with Chinese employers and provides a clear understanding of employers’ needs, enabling Warwick students and graduates to progress efficiently through application processes. At the same time, Warwick graduates are also widely praised by Chinese organisations, as they bring unique skills and abilities which enable these organisations to develop and grow further. Congratulations on receiving this award.

Esther de Perlaky, International Employer Liaison Manager explained;

Over the past few years, we have focused on supporting our students into graduate employment and internship opportunities in China and elsewhere in the world. Our initiatives include dedicated China careers fairs, both in the UK and in China, plus employer presentations and the use of the WeChat social media platform. This year we extended our support to include our first Careers Fair in Shanghai which was a great success and attracted over 500 students and 58 companies including Paypal, Tesla and Expedia. We look forward to expanding our network of support for students and graduates seeking roles in China even further over the coming year.”
