How do I use this calendar?

You can click on an event to display further information about it.

The toolbar above the calendar has buttons to view different events. Use the left and right arrow icons to view events in the past and future. The button inbetween returns you to today's view. The button to the right of this shows a mini-calendar to let you quickly jump to any date.

The dropdown box on the right allows you to see a different view of the calendar, such as an agenda or a termly view.

If this calendar has tags, you can use the labelled checkboxes at the top of the page to select just the tags you wish to view, and then click "Show selected". The calendar will be redisplayed with just the events related to these tags, making it easier to find what you're looking for.

The Bitter History of the Booker Prize: The Booker Company, Sugar Imperialism, and the Battle for British Guiana
via Teams

"The Bitter History of the Booker Prize: The Booker Company, Sugar Imperialism, and the Battle for British Guiana" by Dr Ben Richardson

Thursday 19th November, 3-4pm
Register via Eventbrite here
[Facebook event]

This talk will take place via Teams, including a live Q&A session, as part of the SU’s Hidden Histories lecture series.

"The Booker Prize takes its name from its initial sponsor, Booker McConnell, one of the preeminent companies of the British empire. The commercial lifeblood of Booker had been sugar and its heartland was British Guiana. Indeed, so dominant was it in colonial affairs that the country was dubbed ‘Booker’s Guiana’. This talk explores the history of British imperialism in the Caribbean and its legacies for both modern-day Guyana and the UK. The event will consist of a pre-recorded lecture followed by live Q&A. Please feel free to type questions during the lecture as well as ask them afterwards."
