Printed Publications Best Practice Workshop

Friday 22nd February, 9am - 12pm, Warwick Business School

This session will build upon recent work undertaken by Sarah Cowan at Warwick Business School on the production of environmentally-friendly alternatives to traditional products and is supported by our central purchasing and environmental teams. It will be an informal meeting, and hopefully informative and fun.

It will include consideration of recycled paper use, vegetable-based inks and biodegradable laminates, specification requirements for our existing print suppliers, together with opportunities for cost savings through OGC procurement methods.

The schedule will be:

9.00-9.30: Welcome, coffee and introductions

9.30-10.30: Mandy Woodcock (WRAP) – Setting the Scene

10.30-10.45: Break

10.45-12.00: Practical Applications at Warwick - Open discussion including WBS experience and price comparisons

If you would like to attend, please contact Nick Hillard on Nick.Hillard@warwick.ac.uk, confirming how many people from your department will be present.

Prior to the event (and in an effort to focus the mind), it would be useful if you could quantify the approximate annual weight of publications that you purchase. To do this, simply weigh one brochure (use postal scales if available) and multiply by the number of copies printed. For example:

Warwick & the Envt leaflet - 30g

Number printed - 6500

Total weight purchased - 195kg

(As guide, WBS has estimated that it purchases approximately 12 tonnes of brochures and sends 36 tonnes of paper for digital print.)
