The Ensemble as Vital Practice: Between the Academy and the Rehearsal Room

The CAPITAL Centre would like to invite Warwick staff and students to an afternoon of conversation and workshops with Michael Boyd, Artistic Director, Royal Shakespeare Company. The afternoon event will include a workshop between 2.15pm and 3.45pm, which will be limited to a small group (maximum of 25) who will explore physically the values and behaviours of the ensemble, facilitated by Jonothan Neelands with Michael Boyd.

The actor, Geoffrey Streatfield has described the RSC ensemble in these words:

"Our ever growing trust enables us to experiment, improvise and rework on the floor with an astonishing freedom and confidence. This ensemble is a secure environment without ever being a comfort zone. All of us are continually challenging ourselves and being inspired by those around us to reach new levels in all aspects of our work."

The HEA-funded Open Space-learning Project based at Warwick embraces this desire to develop high quality learning encounters which are experimental, provisional, challenging and inspirational for teachers and learners. Through funding OSL based projects in six different department and other initiatives, the OSL project takes forward the outcomes from our rich collaborations with the RSC in recent years.

If you would like to attend, please email s.l.brock@warwick.ac.uk with your name and department and whether you wish to participate in the workshop. We regret that auditors cannot be accommodated in the workshop.
