Gary M Radke is Dean’s Professor of the Humanities at Syracuse University, New York, where he has taught since 1980.

An expert in Italian art, he is a fellow of the American Academy in Rome and has held fellowships from a number of private foundations. His books include Viterbo: Profile of a Thirteenth-Century Papal Palace, and Art in Renaissance Italy, now in its third edition with translations in Spanish and Chinese. His scholarly articles focus on Florentine sculpture and the patronage of nuns in Renaissance Venice.

He has also organized exhibitions of Italian art for the High Museum of Art in Atlanta, including Michelangelo: Drawings and Other Treasures from the Casa Buonarroti, Florence; Verrocchio’s David Restored: A Renaissance Bronze from the National Museum of the Bargello, Florence; and The Gates of Paradise: Lorenzo Ghiberti’s Renaissance Masterpiece.
