Chinese Calligraphy

Tuesday 5th February 2008, 17:30–19:30, LIB2, University Library
"Shu Fa" (Chinese calligraphy) is one of the four traditional oriental arts. It is often thought to be most revealing of one's personality. During the Imperial era, calligraphy was used as an important criterion for selection of executives to the Imperial court.

The Language Centre is sponsoring a special free session with Zhao Yizhou, a master calligrapher who will be demonstrating this art of Calligraphy and involving the audience in brush writing.

“Widely regarded as the finest contemporary Chinese calligrapher in the UK, Zhao's unusual combination of tradition and innovation creates a unique vitality and originality which uncovers the principles of Chinese shufa” (The Times, http://www.meaa.org.uk/news.htm.)
