Gender, Status & Skills: A Female Ink-stone Carver and Her Patrons/Clients in Eighteenth-Century China

Professor Ko, who will deliver this lecture, is a Visiting Fellow at the Institute of Advanced Study. A drinks reception will follow.

Professor Ko is an internationally-renowned historian of early modern China, who received her PhD from Stanford University and has since taught at the University of California (San Diego) and at Rutgers University. She is the author of Teachers of the Inner Chambers: Women and Culture in Seventeenth-Century China (Stanford, 1994), Every Step a Lotus: Shoes for Bound Feet (California, 2001) and Cinderella's Sisters: A Revisionist History of Footbinding (California, 2005).
