Gao Xingjian, Nobel Laureate of Literature

Wednesday 14th May 2008, 8pm

Warwick is privileged to host this event, where Gao Xingjian, the only Chinese Nobel Laureate of Literature, will speak. This event will showcase Chinese art, literature, theatre and philosophy in a global perspective.

A prolific playwright, novelist, painter, translator, stage director and critic, Gao's profound reflections on life and the human soul transcend linguistic, political or cultural boundaries. As he puts it, 'I think of myself as a citizen of the world. A frail man, who has managed not to be crushed by authority, and who speaks to the world with his own voice.

This event is organised by the Centre for Translation and Comparative Cultural Studies in conjunction with the China Now festival, the Royal Society for Literature and Derek Walcott Press.

For more information, including a biography of Gao Xingjian and some of his works, see http://www2.warwick.ac.uk/fac/arts/ctccs/news/xingjian/.

Tickets are available now for this event online here and in person at the Warwick Arts Centre Box Office, priced £5 (£3.50 concessions).  This event will undoubtedly be very popular so it is important to book in advance.
