Gilad Atzmon, the Expanded Orient House Ensemble
The Israeli saxophonist Gilad Atzmon source materials range from East European folk music through to hard bop, funk and French accordian tunes.
Atzmon's extended Orient House Ensemble now features, among others, the extraordinary Palestinian singer Reem Kelani, drummer Asaf Sirkis and pianist Frank Harrison who strain towards cranium-shattering levels of intensity.
"Atzmon's saxophone solos have a Coltrane and Nick Cave-like intensity. He may have nothing but contempt for war-hungry world leaders, but Gilad Atzmon's music sounds as if it was designed to flatten armies." The Guardian
