Chemistry Lecture

Chemistry Lecture: Self-assembly in coordination chemistry; anion-templated cages and luminescent coordination polymer

Date: Thursday 17 November 2005

Time: Refreshments at 4pm, Lecture starts at 4.15pm

Venue: Physics Lecture Theatre, Science Concourse

Speaker: Mike Ward, Sheffield

Cavities in large coordination cages give host-guest chemistry of anion encapsulation. In the first part Mike illustrates construction of cages from simple bridging ligands and first-row transition metal ions. The second part describes how coordination networks and polymers based on photophysically-active components display sensitized luminescence following excitation of d-block chromophores in the lattice.
