Annual Donald Charlton Lecture: 'The Measurement of Angels – Art and Science in the Course of Secularisation'

Date: Thursday 16 February 2006

Time: 18:00-19:00

Venue: S0.21, Social Studies Building

Professor Sigrid Weigel, Director of the Centre for Literary Research in Berlin, is to give the annual Donald Charlton Lecture sponsored this year by the Centre for Research in Philosophy and Literature as well as the Humanities Research Centre at the University of Warwick. One of her major current research projects is on the impact of secularisation in the modern age which also provides the topic of her lecture. Within her broader cultural historical purview, her illustrated lecture may be of special interest to scholars in the history of art and medicine, as well as to those with an interest in the history of science. Weigel is well known on the European continent as a distinguished cross-disciplinary thinker in the tradition of Benjamin and Adorno but is not so well known in this country outside Germanist circles. The Warwick research centres are proud to give her a platform and all are welcome to attend. The lecture will be followed by a wine reception
